Overview
Manaslu Circuit Trekking an adventure that takes you around the massif Manaslu Himalayan Mountain range. Mt. Manaslu is listed as the world’s 8th highest peaks at 8,163 m/26, 781 feet.
Located within Mansiri Himalayas at Gorkha District around Mid-West Nepal, and Central Himalaya. As well as close to Annapurna Himal in the west and Ganesh Himal towards east.
The Upper Manaslu region from Jagat Village, which is the first day of trekking falls within restricted area. Since it was open for outside visitors from 1991, where all trekkers require a special permit to enter Upper Manaslu.
The Manaslu Circuit region is also falls within MCA (Manaslu Conservation Area). In order to protect its pristine wilderness from mass flow of trekkers and adventurers. But from the past last few decades the upper region of Manaslu drawing more trekkers, due to its hidden treasures. As the country is enriched with exotic flora and fauna, including immense and fascinating cultures of age-old heritage.
The name Manaslu comes from an ancient Sanskrit which means soul or spirits of the might lord. Whereas, the local native name is Kutang of Tibetan origin language translates as a promising land. For yielding high altitude crops and raising livestock of yaks and other cattle. Indeed, it’s a flourishing high country blessed with beautiful scenery of towering snow-mountains and rugged landscape terrains. In early days it was a prime Trans Himalayan Trade Route to Tibet.
Where caravans of Yaks, mules and horses laden with goods from Nepal and Tibet passes through Manaslu Valley.
Manaslu Circuit Trekking, involves exciting drives both ways to start the adventure and at the end of walks at Dharapani.
The walk begins following the raging glacial Budhi Gandaki River upstream.
Then the trail leads through lower warm farm villages, and then heading towards high green hills. The air gets cooler walking into forest of tall rhododendrons and pine trees. As the trail leads from one lovely village to another adorned with impressive Buddhist monument of prayer walls and stupas.
The views of Mt. Manaslu is seen along the walk from Namrung and Lo villages until Sama-Gaon is reached. Sama-Gaon located in mid-way between Manaslu Base Camp, en route to Larke-La Pass and towards Nepal and Tibet, China borders.
At Sama-Gaon have time for acclimatization before heading towards the high Larke-La Pass. A nice scenic spot for rest day to explore around its viewpoints and to experience the local immense cultures.
From Sama Gaon, adventure continues towards the end of Manaslu Valley rim reaching the base of Larke-La Pass at Dharmasala. A small settlement with fewer lodge to accommodate the trekkers. The next early morning a steep climb leads you on top of Larke-La Pass. The highest point of the adventure, surrounded by giant snow peaks of Manaslu, Annapurna and Damodar Himal.
The view extends to Himlung Himal across Manang and Nar Phu areas, with Ganesh Himal towards east. After a strenuous climb a long distance descent takes you down to Bhimthang within Manang district. From here back into serene and lovely forest, the walk follows down to Dharapani Village. The end of trekking and then taking the comfort of four-wheel drives back to Kathmandu via Bhesishar Town.
