Langtang & Gosainkunda Trekking leads around both scenic highlights of the Langtang Himal region. Visiting Langtang Valley and heading towards high Gosainkunda, a famous pilgrimage site for Hindu followers. Thousands of Hindu devotee visits on a special auspicious of Jani Purnima, a Hindu festival held at Gosainkunda annually.

The first part of the adventure takes you to moderate climbs uphill and river gorges covered in dense forest. The walk leads through several smaller settlements, the Lama Hotel and Langtang Village, then enters the scenic Langtang Valley. Where the nice Kyanjin Gompa is situated, in the heart of beautiful landscape scenery amidst Langtang Valley.

At Kyanjin Gompa, have time to explore and hike to the famous high viewpoints of Kyanjin-Ri and Tserko-Ri. The top offers a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding giant peaks facing the Langtang Himal ranges. As far as Jugal Himal and Dorje Lakpa towards the east, with mountains across the borders of Tibet.

After an enjoyable moment with acclimatization day hikes around Langtang Valley, and then getting ready for the adventurous to Gosainkunda. On leaving Kyanjin Gompa, our route diverts towards the northeast past Upper Syabru and Sing Gompa’s lovely villages.

As the climb proceeds, heading up to a steep uphill to Laurabinaya ridge top, enjoy the stunning views of dramatic landscapes. Include grandeur vista of Langtang, Ganesh, and Manaslu, as far as the Annapurna Himalayas towards the eastern horizon. The walk then gets pleasant on the gradual trail leading towards Bhairab Kunda to reach the holy site at Gosainkunda. It is one of the famous pilgrimage sites for all the Hindu followers who visit for a bath in the icy water of Gosainkunda Lake. The belief is that this lake was created by the Lord Shiva when he consumed poison to save worldly beings.

Gosainkunda and the lake are located on a basin within a serene environment. From Gosainkunda, the walk follows with a climb towards a high pass of Gosainkunda to head east. After the big climb and long descent, then enters the Helambu region at Kutumsang and Gul Bhanjyang Villages.

The return journey continues following a high ridge towards Chisapani for the last overnight stop of the trek. Chisapani, with several good lodges, offers spectacular sunrise and sunset views over the Snow Mountains ranges. Enjoy the striking sunrise in the early morning and then head downhill towards Sundarijal farm town. Then, the trek ends with a short drive back to Kathmandu after a great adventure on Langtang Valley and Gosainkunda Trekking.

Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Trek Itinerary

On arrival at Kathmandu international airport received by staff and guide and for a short drive to your hotels. Situated in the hub of Kathmandu city, around Thamel an exciting location. After checking into your rooms with refreshment our guides will brief regarding the treks. Evening a welcome dinner in a nice Nepalese restaurant to get familiar with the culture and Nepali food.

Morning after breakfast, an exciting tour of Nepalese culture and historical tour around Nepal's landmarks and World Heritage Sites. Rest of the day after an interesting tour, with time for trek preparations.

Depart from the hotel after a good breakfast for Langtang Valley Trek begins with morning drive on the main highway. Heading beyond the city and the valley towards Trisuli River for possible lunch stop. Afternoon drive heads on winding uphill to cooler mid-hills and farm village and towns. To enter Dhunche, the headquarter town of Rasuwa district and Langtang Himal area and the entrance of Langtang National Park. From here on winding downhill for few hours to Syabrubesi for first overnight of the trek. A nice village almost a size of small town, Syabrubesi is the gateways for various adventures to Langtang Valley.
As well as to Gosainkunda holy lake, and Ganesh Himal, including Tamang Heritage Trail. It is also the main route to Nepal and Tibet, China borders towards north through Rasuwagadhi and Kyirong. At Syabrubesi check into a nice and simple lodge accommodation. Have time to explore around Syabrubesi and observe the local Tamang people cultures and activities.

From Syabrubesi, after a pleasant overnight stop, morning after breakfast walk
towards the bridge. Then climb leads past smaller farm areas, to reach a small
settlement at Riverside. Possible lunch stops, after a refreshing break
uphill through forested path to Lama Hotel for overnight halt.
Lama Hotel a temporary settlement with number of simple and good lodge,
amidst a river gorge and dense forest.

Enjoy the serene surrounding of dense forest, lined with tall rhododendrons,
pines, fir and oaks. Including bamboo stalks, make a good habitat for elusive
Red Panda, often seen around. From Lama Hotel the morning walk follows with
gradual climb into lovely tall trees. After few hours of good walk following the
river upstream to an open area at Ghode Tabela. A small settlement with few huts
serves as Tea-House, an ideal spot for lunch. Afternoon walk leads through the
dense woods to reach Langtang Village or further to Mundu for overnight halt.
From here the tall tree lines drops for smaller bush of juniper and prickly Burberry
bushes. At Langtang Village check into a nice simple lodge for overnight halt, and
explore the village. This village was destroyed to the ground from the big
earthquakes of 2015. Many houses and human life was lost, including few
trekkers, a memorial has been built near the village.

Today a short and pleasant walk to Kyanjin Gompa, located in the heart of
Langtang Valley. Leaving the lodge at Langtang Village or Mundu the both
settlements is close en route to Langtang Valley. After walking past Mundu
a short climb to enter the wide exposed areas of Langtang Valley.
Enjoy the scenic walk as the trail follows to a large and lovely settlement at
Kyanjin Gompa. Located close to the bottom of massif Langtang Lirung Himal Ice
fall and glaciers with rocky moraines. Enjoy the comfort of a nice lodge
accommodation with comprehensive food menu to order for lunch and dinner.
Kyanjin Gompa is the highest point of the trek, after lunch explore around
Its nice impressive small monastery the Gompa. As well as tour of a small Yak
Cheese processing factory.

At Kyanjin Gompa and Langtang Valley, with extra day for exciting long and short hike with climb to the viewpoints. Options for climb to Kyanjin-Ri, close from Kyanjin Gompa, the next is Tserko-Ri at 4, 985 m/16, 355 feet high. These both high viewpoints offers fantastic panorama of all the Langtang and Central Himalaya Mountain ranges.

Enjoy the breathtaking views of Ghengu Liru (Langtang II 6,571m / 21,560ft), Langtang Lirung (7,425m / 23,765ft). Includes peaks of Kimshun (6,745m / 22,137ft) and Shalbachum (6,918m / 22, 699ft) to the south, the Chimsedang Lekh. A high ridge with group of peaks with Naya-Kanga 5,846 m/ Ganjala peak and Gangchenpo. Extends, as far as Tillman’s beautiful Fluted Peak with Jugal Himal. Ends with views of Mt. Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m / 22,854 feet) towards the Far East. The panorama of Langtang Himal range with Yala Peak, Langshisa peak includes mountains across the border in Tibet.

Enjoying wonderful moment at Kyanjin Gompa, and around Langtang Valley, return journey following the downhill path. Taking the same scenic route, quite a long day to reach Lama Hotel, but easier on gradual trail.

From Lama Hotel, the trail follows on pleasant downhill to Riverside. From here the route diverts to a small settlement of Bamboo for lunch. Afternoon climb for few hours to reach a high ridge, where a nice village of Thulo or Upper Syabru is located. Transfer to a nice small lodge, and have to visit the village life and cultures.

Morning from Thulo Syabru, climb starts above the village into dense forest of pines and rhododendron trees. Heading past few smaller farm area to reach a wide meadow, and then walk on a nice path through lovely woods.

Slowly after a good walk for few hours reaching Sing Gompa, also known as Chandanbari. It means a place of sandal wood, check into a nice lodge for overnight. The village with a monastery on top of the lodge, which is en routetowards Gosainkunda our next destination.

After breakfast, morning starts with short climb above the village facing grand panorama of the Himalayan peaks. Enjoy views of Ganesh Himal and Manaslu, as far as Annapurna Himalayas, then the walk follows on gentle path. The trail leads into dense forest with superb views of Langtang Himal range. After leaving the forest behind, then climb on steep ridge line to Laurabinaya hill top.

The walk leads past shops and tea-houses, the place around is known as Laurabinaya, where pilgrims leaves their walking sticks. After completing the visit to Gosainkunda, with prayers and religious rites. Hence it is called as Laurabinaya, a place with piles of walking sticks. Walk continues with climb to Laurabinaya high ridge, then downhill coming across Bhairab and Saraswati Kund/ponds. A short climb to Gosainkunda and the holy glacial lake close by. Check into a simple lodge. Rest of the afternoon walk around the crystal clear holy lake. The area is surrounded by high rock cliffs and snow peaks, Gosainkunda is a famous and most popular pilgrimage sites, especially for the Hindu’s. Once a year in the end of July or August during the wet monsoon times, a religious festival takes place. Thousands of devotee and pilgrims visits for prayer and worship with dip and a bathe in icy cold lake.

From Gosainkunda, morning starts on gradual path following east direction along the shore of Gosainkunda Lake. Then climb over rocky path past smaller glacial ponds, to reach on top of Gosainkunda Pass, also called East Laurabinaya-La.

The top of Gosainkunda Pass, the highest spot of the adventure offers exciting views of the beautiful landscapes. From the top a slow long downhill to the bottom at Phedi, a place with few small huts. Serves as tea-houses for travelers and pilgrims, possible lunch stop. From Phedi on gradual path with short ups and down to Ghopte for overnight. A small settlement with few simple lodges located amidst forest surroundings. The name Ghopte for a large overhanging caves, makes a natural shelter for travelers during the early days.

Todays walk leads around the outskirts of Helambu areas, a lovely and pleasant walk on leaving Ghopte Odar. The trail follows through forest, as walk proceeds
with climb to a high ridge at Tharepati. Enjoy a refreshing stop for lunch, from Tharepati offers grand scenery of snow peaks. Located en route to Kathmandu and towards inner Helambu areas. From here on downhill into cool shade of pine and rhododendrons trees to Kutumsang for overnight. A nice farm village with grand views of green rolling hills and valleys.

After a lovely time in Kutumsang, the walk from here leads to the northern hills of Kathmandu Valley at Chisapani. Morning starts with downhill and few short ups
to Gul Bhanjyang, a nice village for possible lunch stop. From here walk on a high ridge and then downhill to Patibanjyang village, as climb reaches Chisapani. A nice and scenic spot with number of good lodges and guest houses, facing views of Langtang, Ganesh and Jugal Himal range. Chisapani is famous for stunning sunrise and sunset views over chain of Himalayan snow mountain ranges. At Chisapani, enjoy the comfort of nice lodge accommodation with last overnight around the high hills of Central Himalayas.

Early morning rising up for spectacular sunrise views as it reflects over the snow mountain ranges. After breakfast, enjoy the last day of trekking, the walk follows down into dense forest with short ups and down. Reaching, a farm village at Burlang Bhanjyang. The walk continues down to Sundarijal, lovely area with fresh streams and waterfalls, the name itself means a place of beautiful water.

The last hour walk leads down to Sundarijal, located on a road-head around the North-eastern rim of Kathmandu Valley. From here a short drive of an hour to enter the hustle and bustle city life of Kathmandu. After checking into your hotels, rest of the day free at leisure for individual activities or shopping souvenirs of Nepal.

Last day in Kathmandu and Nepal, after a great experience on Langtang Valley and Gosainkunda Trekking. As time for the international flight transfer to Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport. Then bid farewell to the guide, staff as you enter the airport terminal for homeward bound flight, or to next port of call.

Do we need permits for Langtang Valley & Gosainkunda Trek?

The permits required for this short scenic adventure are TIMS (Trekking Information Management Systems). Includes Langtang National Park entrance fees, which will be obtained by the local company. On booking, the permits will be ready by the time you depart for the treks.

How tough is Langtang Valley and Gosainkunda trek?

One of moderate and adventurous trekking to enjoy for a little less than two weeks. The walk is not that hard and tough as it seems, without a problem of altitude sickness or AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness).

Walk leads with slow gain on altitude each day, as you get acclimatize at certain heights. As well as on rest days with short hike to support acclimatization, and with good exercise before you reach Gosainkunda. By the time all trekkers will be fit and able to take the challenge of steep uphill and downhill.

How much money to carry on this treks?

Depending upon your choices of extra expenses on refreshments drinks / snacks.
En route trekking days, as well buying local souvenirs, for hard drinks and beers can be expensive. Around the mountain villages than on lower areas, (try to avoid hard drinks and beer when walking towards higher altitude. It is safe for drinking after crossing the Gosainkunda Pass. On high altitude drinking alcohol, cause de-hydrations and make problem with altitude sickness.

On the way back downhill one can enjoy drinking in the end of the treks, average of NRS 300-400 per day (just in case you need to spend for your own personal use), otherwise all meals and accommodation will be included on package.

Tipping and gratitude after the treks at your own will (however a long history and traditions in trekking / climbing or in tour where staff-guides-porters will expect tipping from the services provided).

Are there facilities of electricity and internets, WI-FI?

Nearly all the villages and lodges, have electricity run by Hydro or Solar Powers. Trekkers can enjoy the facilities, charging electronic items, as well with Internet and Wi-Fi services. But some smaller places like Lama Hotel to Kyanjin Gompa the internet and WI-FI, are quite slow and disturbing. Due to weather and landscape wise, other places runs well with cell phone or internets.
