Everest Three High Passes Trekking is a great adventure, covering most of the scenic and beautiful areas of Khumbu Valley. The trek that leads you from one picturesque valley to another exciting high country. Crossing over the high passes from the east to the western end of the Khumbu region of Everest. The trek with constant views of towering giant snow-capped peaks in the close shadow of Mt. Everest.
The treks lead first to cross over the highest Khongma-La Pass from the rest of the two passes. Crossing Cho-La Pass to enter the scenic Gokyo Valley of lakes and cross the last Renjo-La Pass.
The adventure also includes a visit to the Everest Base Camp with a climb to Kalapathar, the highest point of the trekking. As well as climb to Gokyo-Ri for a sweeping panorama of the world’s four highest peaks. Then complete the Everest Three High Passes Trekking on reaching Namche Bazaar and back to Lukla.
Everest Three High Passes Trekking of two options, to start the adventures clockwise or anticlockwise. That is from west to east or vice-versa, but most trekkers prefer the anticlockwise direction to start the trek. It is wise and the best option, as the trek follows the main route to Everest base camp. The route diverts towards the hidden corners to cross Khongma-La Pass to reach the Everest base camp. Everest Three High Passes Trek Itinerary
On arrival at Kathmandu international airport received by staff and guide and for a short drive to your hotels. Situated in the hub of Kathmandu city, around Thamel an exciting location. After checking into your rooms with refreshment our guides will brief regarding the treks. Evening a welcome dinner in a nice Nepalese restaurant to get familiar with the culture and Nepali food.
Morning after breakfast, an exciting tour of Nepalese culture and historical tour around Nepal's landmarks and World Heritage Sites. Rest of the day after an interesting tour, with time for trek preparations.
Morning depart from the hotel after an early breakfast as time for flight to Lukla transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport. After checking through security, then board in a small aircraft either Dornier, Twin Otter or similar plane. Flight of 30 or 35 minutes, enjoy the views of Himalayan panorama with glimpse of Mt. Everest. On landing at Lukla’s Tenzing & Hillary Airport, Lukla town the gateway to various adventures around Khumbu and Everest regions. From Lukla, after collecting the baggage’s, then getting organized follow the guide through the town of Lukla. From the main gate of Lukla, downhill, and then on gradual winding path past serval villages, adorned with prayer monuments. As the walk follows Dudh Koshi River with short ups and down to Phakding for overnight stop around Khumbu and Everest regions.
After a pleasant overnight in Phakding, the walk today takes you to Namche Bazaar, the hub town of Khumbu. Morning from Phakding, walk leads to short down and ups, the trail leads through Bhenkar village. Then crossing a long bridge above Dudh Koshi River with short steep climb to Monjo village. Where Sagarmatha National Park entrance located, Sagarmatha a name for Everest, the Sherpa calls Chomolungma. From here a short down to cross another bridge to reach Jorsalle the last settlement before Namche Bazaar. A popular lunch spot en route to Namche Bazaar, enjoy lunch with the sound of the river. Afternoon walk on the river bank amidst dense forest of rhododendron and pines, then cross over a high bridge. After the bridge following winding uphill trail to Namche Bazaar for two overnights stops.
Enjoy rest at Namche Bazaar with perfect height for acclimatization, as well as the hub of Khumbu villagers. In Namche once a week on Saturday a busy colorful market takes place. So, the name Bazaar is tagged with Namche, on rest day take a short hike to the top of Namche Bazaar. The climb of less than hour leads to high ridge offers grand views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse peaks. Includes stunning views of Mt. Ama Dablam with series of snow peaks, and visit the nearby museum. Interested people can take a hike up to Everest View Hotel, the first luxury hotels around Khumbu. Rest of the afternoon at leisure to explore the Namche Bazaar and observe the local cultures of Buddhism.
From Namche Bazaar, after a pleasant two overnights start the morning walk with short steep climb. From the top of Namche Bazaar, the walks get better on gradual winding up with fantastic views of Everest. Includes series of snow-mountain ranges, the walk follows down to Imjatse River for lunch stop, at Phunki Tenga. A small settlement with few Tea Houses amidst forest surroundings. After lunch climb for few hours through lovely woods to reach Tengboche and the famous monastery.
At Tengboche enjoy the panorama of towering peaks with Mt. Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse. As well as close views of Ama Dablam and surrounding snow peaks, with time to visit the monastery interior. Observe the monks and priest on prayer and religious activities, with huge statue of Buddha and other famous Guru’s.
After an interesting tour of the monastery check to a nice lodge at Tengboche. Sometimes the guide, leads you to Deboche a small settlement with few nice Lodges. Which is about less an hour downhill through lovely forest of Rhododendrons and pine trees.
Morning enjoy the views of Everest with towering face of Mt. Ama Dablam. The walk starts with downhill to a river, after crossing a bridge, leaving the forest behind for mountainous dry country. From the bridge climb leads to Pangboche, the last permanent village en route Everest base camp. From Pangboche a short climb to a small settlement at Somare for lunch stop. Afternoon walk follows on gradual uphill trail with short down to a stream, after crossing a small bridge. Then climb starts for an hour or more on winding steep up to reach Imjatse Valley, where Dingboche is located. A moderate settlement with many good lodges for overnight halt. Transfer into a nice lodge, amidst beautiful Imjatse Valley, beneath the towering Ama Dablam with views of Island Peak.
At Dingboche for another rest day, before the heading towards Everest base camp. Morning at Dingboche take a hike to high ridge top of Nagar-Tsonga hill, a few hours’ steep climb. A good exercise to support acclimatization, rewards with fantastic views of Island Peak, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Nuptse. As far as towards Mt. Makalu in the east, after an enjoyable morning hike, rest of the day at leisure.
From Dingboche a short walk to Chukung, heading east at the end of Imjatse Valley with close views of Island Peak. The route leads on an easy path with few ups to Chukung. Enjoy the grand views of the giant peaks, surrounds Chukung and its small settlement with a several simple lodges. At Chukung arriving in time for lunch and overnight halt. Rest of the afternoon rest or enjoy few hour’s climb to Chukung-Ri 5,546 m/18,196 feet. For stunning views of the towering snow-capped peaks with closest face of the famous trekking Island Peak.
Rising early having good breakfast, and carrying packed lunch for the long day. The walk follows above Imjatse Valley, and soon route diverts towards a gully and a gorge. Between the high rocky walls of Nuptse peak and Nakartsang ridge. The walk leads follows the rocky faint path, the climb to a steep slope to reach top of Khoma-La. The highest pass from other two passes to cross, hidden by Pokalde, Nuptse and Mehara or Khongma peaks, the pass is marked with prayer flags and rock cairns. From the pass a slow descend to Khumbu glacier, the walk is quite tricky on glaciated path. After crossing over the Khumbu glacier. a steep climb of less than an hour to reach a wide valley. Where Lobuche settlement situated, with number of good lodge, check into a nice room with views of Nuptse and Lobuche peak, Lobuche a nice spot well hidden from the gusty cold wind.
Another early morning walks to Everest base camp, the trail follows on a wide path with short steep climb reaching above Khumbu glacier. As the walk leads over rocky moraine, and downhill to Gorakshep, located beneath Kalapathar rocky hill and towering Mt. Pumori. After a short rest in Gorakshep, the continue walk towards Everest Base Camp. The route leads over rocky moraine of ice and glaciers, then reaching Everest base camp. Enjoy the grand dramatic landscapes of ice, snow and glaciers. The views of Mt. Everest obstructed by Lhotse and Nuptse peaks, stand close beneath massif Khumbu Ice Fall. After achieving one of the highlight of the adventures, return walk to Gorakshep for overnight halt.
From Gorakshep, rising early for the last big climb to Kalapathar Hill top. Takes about two hours of strenuous walk uphill, but for the hard effort rewarded with breathtaking views. Enjoy the close look of Mt. Everest with Lhotse and Nuptse with arrays of giant peaks that surrounds the top.
After a glorious views and refreshing morning adventures, descend to Gorakshep for breakfast. Then leaving the high areas of Everest, downhill to Lobuche, after an hour the route diverts towards Dzongla. A small settlement with simple lodges for overnight accommodation before crossing Cho-La Pass.
An early breakfast, follow the guide on a pleasant winding path for short while. On reaching the base of Cho-La pass, climb starts over a steep ridge, taking care on slippery icy sections. After hours of strenuous climb reach on top of Cho-La the pass is marked with prayer flags and rock cairns. Having rest with time to enjoy the close views of Cholatse, Lobuche East/ West peaks and Nirekha peak. As far as Mt. Cho-Oyu, continue walk downhill which is quite steep over boulders of rocks to reach Thagnak. A small settlement located at the eastern end of Gokyo Valley at the base of Cho La Pass. Overnight in the comfort of a nice and simple lodge accommodation, after a long day of climb and downhill walks.
The walk from Thagnak leads to Gokyo Valley of lakes, today a short morning walks of few hours. The trail follows past the first lake and second lake, then reaching Gokyo third lake. It is also called Dudh Kunda, due to the white icy top, enjoy the comfort of a nice lodge. Arriving at Gokyo for lunch and overnight stop, afternoon relax and enjoy the views of Mt. Cho Oyo. The world’s 06th highest peak with Gyachung Kang, reflects on the surface of Gokyo Lake.
Option for early morning hike up Gokyo-Ri, interested people can enjoy the climb of few hours. The top of Gokyo-Ri offers stunning sunrise over chain of snow peaks. Overlooking world’s four highest peaks, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu with Mt. Cho Oyo. The view includes of Gokyo Valley and the lakes with Ngozumpa the longest Glaciers around the Himalayan range. After a refreshing morning capturing spectacular views walk down to Gokyo for breakfast and lunch. Rest of the day explore around the beautiful Gokyo Valley, surrounded by giant snow-capped mountains.
The last and final pass to cross, starting the adventure with another early morning walk, across the lake. On reaching the base of Renjo-La Pass, start the steep climb for few hours with grand mountain scenery. After a strenuous walk uphill reach on top of Renjo-La Pass, having rest then enjoy the spectacular panorama. Facing views of Everest, Lhotse and Makalu with series of peaks that surrounds the pass. After a scenic moment and feeling in great spirits, on completing the last of three passes. Descend towards Lungden, the trail follows through moraine of rocks with small glacial ponds. Then finally reaching the overnight stop at Lungden, a small isolate spot with few simple lodges.
Enjoy the walk to Thame Villages which is all downhill with few short climb. The morning walk from Lungden, leads down coming across at the junctions. Where route to Tibet and Nepal borders separates, in early day’s Tibetan traders with caravan of yaks laden with goods. Crossed the borders over high Nangpa-La Pass to reach Khumbu and Namche Bazaar to sell and barter their goods. From this spot a long descent past smaller yak herder’s settlement of Marlung village. Then cross over the Bhote Koshi River with short climb to Thame village, reaching for overnight halt. Thame a quaint village, on a windswept valley, situated west of Khumbu and Namche Bazaar. From Thame close views of Kwangde Himal ranges. At Thame in the comfort of a nice lodge, having time for tour of an old monastery. Located atop a high windblown hill, the monastery with more than 500 years old history.
Morning after a pleasant overnight in Thame, a short walk down to the bridge. After the bridge within a small river gorge, the rock wall with religious painting of famous Buddhist saints and Gurus. From the bridge a short climb and then on gradual winding trail leads to Thamo village. The walk then reaches back into green tree lines and downhill to Namche Bazaar for late lunch. Afternoon downhill to Dudh Koshi River valley, after crossing bridges, with short
steep climb to national park. Then walk to Monjo for overnight halt before Lukla.
From Monjo, enjoy the last day walk to Lukla, the trail follows crossing bridges above Dudh Koshi River. Then reaching Phakding, from here on gradual path trail with an hour climb to Lukla. Arriving by lunch time and for last overnight night stop around Khumbu region of Everest.
Morning short walk to Lukla’s Tenzing & Hillary Airport after a good early breakfast. As time for flight to Kathmandu, then board in a small aircraft, enjoy the scenic flight above the green hills. Facing great views off the Himalayan range. Then shortly the plane lands at Kathmandu airport, on arrival at domestic air terminal. From the airport parking lot, drive back to your respective hotels, and rest of the day at leisure.
A free day in Kathmandu, reserved as contingency in case of flight delay, and might lead to cancellation sometimes. Which happens sometimes due to unfavorable and bad weather conditions. If all goes well according to the planned itinerary day, enjoy the free day for another tour and shopping souvenirs of Nepal.
Last day in Kathmandu and Nepal, after a great experience on Everest Three High Passes Trekking. As time for the international flight transfer to Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport. Then bid farewell to the guide, staff as you enter the airport terminal for homeward bound flight, or to next port of call.

It is one of the highest altitude adventure where you will be crossing maximum above 5,535 high, with extra options to reach beside passes that is climb to Kalapathar and Gokyo-Ri, the highest spot is at Kalapathar hill top at 5,643 m.
Everest Base Camp, is the main attraction and popular trek, but Everest Three High Pass is not a common and popular adventure. It is purely for adventurers who are interested in challenging and demanding treks. But over the years is drawing more interested trekkers and climbers. The trek leads away from main trail for some days, where one experience the sheer mountain wilderness.
For minor sickness we will try our best providing the victims with enough rest for few days, along with our guide to take care on feeling well can continue and catch the main group.
But on severe altitude sickness or AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) or other serious illness, walk the patient to lower altitude like at Lukla for flight to Kathmandu, the other means of fast transport evacuate the sick person on a helicopter. On this emergency case where victims have to borne all the expenses to be claimed from your health and medical insurance.
Yes, every villages and overnight lodge do have facilities with electricity or solar power to charge cell-phone, camera batteries and laptop. The lodge charge some fee for charging as per hour, where every village have different rate. Higher above from Namche Bazaar onward the cost comes slightly higher.
