Overview

Manaslu Circuit Trekking an adventure that takes you around the massif Manaslu Himalayan Mountain range. Mt. Manaslu is listed as the world’s 8th highest peaks at 8,163 m/26, 781 feet.

Located within Mansiri Himalayas at Gorkha District around Mid-West Nepal, and Central Himalaya. As well as close to Annapurna Himal in the west and Ganesh Himal towards east.

The Upper Manaslu region from Jagat Village, which is the first day of trekking falls within restricted area. Since it was open for outside visitors from 1991, where all trekkers require a special permit to enter Upper Manaslu.

The Manaslu Circuit region is also falls within MCA (Manaslu Conservation Area). In order to protect its pristine wilderness from mass flow of trekkers and adventurers. But from the past last few decades the upper region of Manaslu drawing more trekkers, due to its hidden treasures. As the country is enriched with exotic flora and fauna, including immense and fascinating cultures of age-old heritage.

The name Manaslu comes from an ancient Sanskrit which means soul or spirits of the might lord. Whereas, the local native name is Kutang of Tibetan origin language translates as a promising land. For yielding high altitude crops and raising livestock of yaks and other cattle. Indeed, it’s a flourishing high country blessed with beautiful scenery of towering snow-mountains and rugged landscape terrains. In early days it was a prime Trans Himalayan Trade Route to Tibet.

Where caravans of Yaks, mules and horses laden with goods from Nepal and Tibet passes through Manaslu Valley.

Manaslu Circuit Trekking, involves exciting drives both ways to start the adventure and at the end of walks at Dharapani.

The walk begins following the raging glacial Budhi Gandaki River upstream.
Then the trail leads through lower warm farm villages, and then heading towards high green hills. The air gets cooler walking into forest of tall rhododendrons and pine trees. As the trail leads from one lovely village to another adorned with impressive Buddhist monument of prayer walls and stupas.

The views of Mt. Manaslu is seen along the walk from Namrung and Lo villages until Sama-Gaon is reached. Sama-Gaon located in mid-way between Manaslu Base Camp, en route to Larke-La Pass and towards Nepal and Tibet, China borders.

At Sama-Gaon have time for acclimatization before heading towards the high Larke-La Pass. A nice scenic spot for rest day to explore around its viewpoints and to experience the local immense cultures.

From Sama Gaon, adventure continues towards the end of Manaslu Valley rim reaching the base of Larke-La Pass at Dharmasala. A small settlement with fewer lodge to accommodate the trekkers. The next early morning a steep climb leads you on top of Larke-La Pass. The highest point of the adventure, surrounded by giant snow peaks of Manaslu, Annapurna and Damodar Himal.

The view extends to Himlung Himal across Manang and Nar Phu areas, with Ganesh Himal towards east. After a strenuous climb a long distance descent takes you down to Bhimthang within Manang district. From here back into serene and lovely forest, the walk follows down to Dharapani Village. The end of trekking and then taking the comfort of four-wheel drives back to Kathmandu via Bhesishar Town.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Itinerary

On arrival at Kathmandu international airport received by staff and guide and for a short drive to your hotels. Situated in the hub of Kathmandu city, around Thamel an exciting location. After checking into your rooms with refreshment our guides will brief regarding the treks. Evening a welcome dinner in a nice Nepalese restaurant to get familiar with the culture and Nepali food.

Morning after breakfast, an exciting tour of Nepalese culture and historical tour around Nepal's landmarks and World Heritage Sites. Rest of the day after an interesting tour, with time for trek preparations.

An early morning starts with a long drive towards Central and Mid-West Nepal to Maccha Khola. The starting point of trekking, an interesting drive covering160 km or near 100 mile distances. The drive heads through number of farm Villages and towns to enter Gorkha district. Then reaching a small farm village of Maccha Khola, slowly developing into a town. A moderate size farm village with serval simple lodges for overnight stop. The name Machha Khola means a Fishing stream. Transfer to a nice lodge for overnight, after a long and interesting overland journey.

Enjoy the first day trek from Machha Khola, morning walks lead towards cooler hills. As you leave the lower sub-tropical farm areas, the trail follows with ups and downs. Then head towards Tatopani, a place with a natural hot spring, enjoy the refreshing bath as time permits. From here walk to Khola Besi and then to Dovan, a nice farm village for refreshing Lunch stop. Afternoon the trail leads to climb towards cooler hills above the Budhi Gandaki River and lower farm areas. The walk finally ends reaching at Jagat, a nice moderate size hill village for overnight halt. At Jagat, have time to explore the village and witness the local cultures, a blend of Hindu and Buddhism religions.

After a pleasant overnight at Jagat, from here onwards starts the Restricted Area of Upper Manaslu. Where all foreign visitors need to obtain a special permit to enter Upper Manaslu till Dharapani villages is reached. The walk leads to climb for short hours, and then crossing a bridge to Nagjet and Philim villages, a lovely farm area. The route leads past the neatly tended farm terraces reaching a cool shade of the forest to reach Deng for overnight. From here onwards amidst strong Buddhism culture and the air get much cooler, the start of mountainous country.

On leaving Deng, morning climb leads to a forested ridge lined with tall rhododendron, pine, and fir trees. A slow and steady downhill to Bihi Bazaar, situated near the riverside, after a pleasant stop. The walk continues heading towards farm areas with nice cultivated terraces of millets and barley and then reaching Namrung. After checking into the best available lodge, enjoy the grand views of Mt. Manaslu North Face with an array of peaks.

Enjoying a pleasant stop in Namrung, adventure from here leads towards the high Manaslu Valley. To enter Lo Gaon, one of the charming village around Manaslu Valley. Having breakfast, then setting off for an enjoyable scenic walk to Lo-Gaon. The walk follows to slow and gradual climb, within cool forested path, covered in pine and rhododendron trees. Trek leads above the Buri Gandaki River, and then on winding uphill trail past few settlements of the cattle herder. Then the day finally ends reaching Lo-Gaon for overnight in the comfort of a nice lodge. Lo Gaon located close beneath the North Face of Mt. Manaslu, with views of Sringi and Ganesh Himal towards east.

From Lo Gaon towards Sama Gaon, located in the heart of Manaslu Valley, morning with breakfast enjoy the glorious scenery. Then start the morning walk facing lovely views snow peaks, following the trail heading further west.

Adventure continues walking on gradual uphill on reaching Upper Manaslu, through number of smaller farm villages and Yak herder camps.
An interesting walk around the high valley of Manaslu, enclosed by high rocky cliff and snow peaks. The view of Mt. Manaslu and Sringi Himal remains constant for hours, as walk leads you to Sama-Gaon.

Sama- Gaon, the main village around Manaslu valley, situated on a prime location towards Manaslu Base Camp. As well as en route Larke-La Pass and towards Nepal and Tibet, China borders. At Sama Gaon, check into a nice lodge, with time to explore the village steeped with fascinating Buddhism cultures.

Enjoy a free and rest day for acclimatization, options for short side trips to Birendra Lake. Located close to Manaslu Base Camp, as well as hike up to old Pungyen Gompa offers grand vista.

After an enjoyable time in Sama Gaon, morning walk leads towards windswept country, as tree lines drops for short bushes. The valley gets narrow, as the trek heads closer towards mountainous wilderness, crossing a small bridge. Then with short steep climb to reach a wide plateau, where Samdo is located, arriving for lunch and overnight halt. Samdo is the last village, before reaching Manang areas, on the other side of Larke-La Pass. Samdo village with more than forty houses, adorned with typical Tibetan style houses for more than two hundred inhabitants. Rest of the day, explore around Samdo an interesting village of strong Tibetan origin native.

Today is a short trek to reach Dharmasala and Larke Phedi, which is on the eastern base of Larke-La Pass. Morning walk leads towards the end of Manaslu valley, and Gorkha district. In early days, it known as Larke Bazaar, where flourishing market took place. Buyers and sellers, from sides of the country use to visit to sell their farm products and handicrafts. From Manang, Manaslu and lower villages of Gorkha, as well as Tibetan from across the borders.

After a good day morning hike reaching Dharmasala for lunch and overnight stop. Afternoon relax, preparation for next early morning big climb to cross over high Larke-La Pass.

The Big Day of the adventure, having an early breakfast start the climb before crack of dawn. To be on top before the early sun brings the cold chill factors, the trail follows on rocky gravel path. As the walk heads above from Dharmasala then the trail climb contours with winding steep climb. After hours of exciting and strenuous uphill then finally reach on top of Larke-La Pass. Stand on the highest spot of the adventures, festooned with thousands of prayer flags.

Enjoy the glorious vista of stunning Manaslu and Annapurna Himalayan peaks. Includes views of Himlung, Cheo Himal, and Kang Guru, as far as Ganesh Himal towards east. From the top the downhill is equally tough with steep descent to western base of Larke-La Pass. After a long downhill walk reaching back into dense forest and at Bhimthang for overnight stop. A lovely location amidst forest surroundings with number of fine good lodges.

From Bhimthang, we have made a short day after a tiring and tough walks of previous day. Most trekkers make to Dharapani village in a day, but it is good to have short hours walks. As most trekkers will be worn out and much tired, nevertheless enjoy the morning following on pleasant path. Walk within lovely forest with few short ups, and down to Gho, a small settlement for lunch and overnight.

After a refreshing stop, enjoy the last day walk from Gho to Dharapani Village. The walk leads with dense forest and down to Tilje, a nice village above Masrsyangdi River. At Tilje with refreshing stop, then continue the last leg of the journey, with short climb over a bridge. After the bridge then reach Dharapani village, situated on the popular Annapurna and Manaslu Circuit routes.

A lovely village within district of Manang, from here board in jeep or similar vehicle. The drive of few hour’s heading downhill to warmer sub-tropical farm areas of Lamjung at Bhesishar. A large town and headquarters of Lamjung district, enjoy the comfort of a nice lodge and guest house. Afternoon explore the streets of Bhesishar lined with shops, stores and restaurants, an opportunity to observe the local cultures.

From Bhesishar, an exciting morning drive to Kathmandu, board on a vehicle, depending upon the group size. Leaving Bhesishar, the drive leads on the good road, to join the main highway of Pokhara and Kathmandu from Dumre town.

The overland journey of more four hours or more, on winding uphill to reach the outskirt of Kathmandu valley. Finally drive ends reaching the city area and then back to your hotel, arriving by late afternoon. After a most mesmerizing adventure of a lifetime experience on Manaslu Circuit Trek.

How many hours do we walk every day?

A moderate walk of average hours of 5-6 hours to shortest 4 hours, includes lunch stop in between. The longest trek is from Dharmasala or Larke Phedi on day 12 as per the above itinerary. A climb to Larke-La Pass with long descend to Bhimthang of more than 8 hours walks with ups and down.

How do I prepare for Manaslu Circuit Trek?

Before booking and after signing for the trek, keeping fit and healthy with exercise for an hour or more daily. Preparation after getting much detail and full information from your agents, will suggest you on clothing list, medical history as well buying travel and medical insurance back at home to make your trip safe and sound.

What do I do with my extra luggage while I am hiking?

Extra baggage or luggage with unwanted clothing or items not required on trek, can leave in the hotel store room or with the trekking company booked with.

Is there Wi-Fi on Manaslu Circuit Trek?

Most villages do have Wi-Fi from Machha Khola to Dharapani. But in smaller areas like Dharmasala, Bhimthang and Goh. The internet connection and services, is quite slow and disturbing. Due to the cold climate, as well as in cloudy days, rest of the area on treks are good for Wi-Fi, available en route at designated overnight stops.
