Gokyo Valley to Everest Base Camp via Cho-La Pass Trekking is an adventure of two weeks’ duration. It is an enjoyable and exciting adventure to experience covering the most scenic areas of the high Khumbu Valleys.

Gokyo Valley to Everest Base Camp via Cho-La Pass Trekking routes and follow the scenic trails from Lukla. After a short panoramic flight from Kathmandu, Lukla is the door for various adventures around the high Khumbu and Everest regions.

The first part of the journey leads to pleasant walks through lovely Sherpa villages enriched with age-old heritage cultures. The walk comes across many Buddhist religious monuments with prayer walls along with glorious scenery of landscapes and views of snow-capped peaks.

The walk then enters the world heritage sites at Sagarmatha National Park the name Sagarmatha is for Mt. Everest in Nepal.

For the local Sherpa is Chomolungma of Tibetan origin language, from the national park walk towards the Dudh Koshi River gorge. Then cross the high long bridges, as the walk continues with a climb on a winding trail to the famous Namche Bazaar.

The major town and the commercial hub of Khumbu Sherpa, as well as for the trekkers. Where all kinds of facilities are available from good lodges, hotels, restaurants, banks, and ATMs. An ideal place and the right altitude for acclimatization days, before heading higher ground to Gokyo and Everest base camp. After spending an extra day exploring its scenic viewpoints and local cultures, the adventure continues towards Gokyo Valley. Leaving the main trail of Everest base camp, the route leads to the hidden corners of Khumbu.

At Gokyo Valley around the 3rd lakes, the climb takes you to the high Gokyo-Ri for spectacular sunrise views. Includes superb panorama of Gokyo Valley and the lakes with Ngozumpa, the longest glaciers of the Himalayas. Enjoy the views of the world’s highest peaks, from Everest, Lhotse, and Cho-Oyu to Makalu with a series of giant peaks.

From Gokyo after a great enjoyable moment, the adventure leads to cross over the high Cho-La pass. The original name is Tsho-La for this pass, which forms the boundary of the Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp areas. After a strenuous climb to the top of Cho-La, located close to Cholatse Peak and Lobuche East and West Peaks. After a refreshing stop with dramatic views of the surrounding scenery of snow mountain ranges. The walk follows a long descent to reach Dzongla, a small settlement for an overnight stop. The adventure then leads towards our final destination Everest Base Camp through Lobuche and Gorakshep.

An enjoyable and exciting trail to follow, after being well acclimatized staying in Gokyo and crossing Cho-La Pass. The walk finally reaches Base Camp, amidst remorseless fields of rocky moraine, ice, and glaciers.

Standing close to massif Khumbu Ice Fall, beneath the towering south face of Mt. Everest. The views of Mt. Everest are hidden by the staggering peaks of Nuptse and Lhotse. After the most exciting moments at Everest base camp, the next adventure takes you to the highest spot. On top of famous viewpoints at Kalapathar rocky ridge, for the closest views of Mt. Everest at a mere distance.

On completing the main goals and highlights of the adventures, return journey on an alternative route to Namche Bazaar. The walk leads down to scenic Pheriche Valley and its lovely settlements, then heading further down to Pangboche Village. From Pangboche back into dense trees of rhododendrons and pines with a climb to beautiful Tengboche and the monastery.

Gokyo Valley To EBC via Cho-la Pass Itinerary

On arrival at Kathmandu international airport received by staff and guide and for a short drive to your hotels. Situated in the hub of Kathmandu city, around Thamel an exciting location. After checking into your rooms with refreshment our guides will brief regarding the treks. Evening a welcome dinner in a nice Nepalese restaurant to get familiar with the culture and Nepali food.

Morning after breakfast, an exciting tour of Nepalese culture and historical tour around Nepal's landmarks and World Heritage Sites. Rest of the day after an interesting tour, with time for trek preparations.

Morning depart from the hotel after an early breakfast as time for flight to Lukla transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport. After checking through security, then board in a small aircraft either Dornier, Twin Otter or similar plane. Flight of 30 or 35 minutes, enjoy the views of Himalayan panorama with glimpse of Mt. Everest. On landing at Lukla’s Tenzing & Hillary Airport, Lukla town the gateway to various adventures around Khumbu and Everest regions. From Lukla, after collecting the baggage’s, then getting organized follow the guide through the town of Lukla. From the main gate of Lukla, downhill, and then on gradual winding path past serval villages, adorned with prayer monuments. As the walk follows Dudh Koshi River with short ups and down to Phakding for overnight stop around Khumbu and Everest regions.

After a pleasant overnight in Phakding, the walk today takes you to Namche Bazaar, the hub town of Khumbu. Morning from Phakding, walk leads to short down and ups, the trail leads through Bhenkar village. Then crossing a long bridge above Dudh Koshi River with short steep climb to Monjo village. Where Sagarmatha National Park entrance located, Sagarmatha a name for Everest, the Sherpa calls Chomolungma. From here a short down to cross another bridge to reach Jorsalle the last settlement before Namche Bazaar. A popular lunch spot en route to Namche Bazaar, enjoy lunch with the sound of the river. Afternoon walk on the river bank amidst dense forest of rhododendron and pines, then cross over a high bridge. After the bridge following winding uphill trail to Namche Bazaar for two overnights stops.

Namche Bazaar, the hub of Khumbu villagers where once a week a busy colorful Market held on Saturday. Hence the name tagged as Namche Bazaar, full of shops, stores, restaurants and café with fresh bakeries. Includes banks with fancy lodges and hotels, an ideal place for rest day and acclimatization.

At Namche Bazaar enjoy the morning walk on top of a high ridge for grand views of Mt. Everest. Includes, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam with series of giant snow peaks, having time visit the nearby museum. Interested people can take a hike up to Everest View Hotel, the first luxury hotels around Khumbu.

After an enjoyable rest at Namche Bazaar, morning walk up for short while and then on scenic trail to Gokyo. The walk follows along with glorious views of Snow-mountain range. From here first hour on pleasant trail to Kyanjuma near Shanasha, then our route diverts north with steep climb. Then reach on top of Mong ridge at 3,973 meters, enjoy the superb panorama of the snow peaks. From Mong, on downhill to Dudh Koshi at Phortse Tenga for lunch stop, located by the Dudh Koshi River gorge. Covered in dense trees, afternoon route leads uphill to Dole for overnight stop, a small settlement with few nice good lodges.

From Dole, on entering en route to Gokyo Valley, today a short walk to Machermo. Morning starts with short climb to reach an open ridge to follow a ridge to Lhabarma Kharka at 4,325 m. Then walk to a small settlement of Luza at 4,390m; as walk proceeds with first glimpse of Machermo. Enjoy the views of Cho-Oyu peaks, then walk down below a small river gorge with short climb to Machermo for lunch and overnight stop. Rest of the afternoon at leisure for short hike around Machermo.

Today the walk leads to Gokyo Valley and the lakes, morning a short steep climb to a ridge top. Then following a scenic trail to Pangka 4,545m, and then climbing a rocky path into ablation valley. As the trail climbs reaching the first lake and second lake, then reaching third lake at Gokyo. Located above the main 3rd Lake of Gokyo also called Dudh Kunda, due to the white icy top. Enjoy the comfort of a nice lodge for two overnights and lunch in one its nice good lodge. Afternoon relax and enjoy the views of Mt. Cho Oyo, the world’s 06th highest, and Gyachung Kang, as it reflects on Gokyo Lake.

Start the morning hike, walk across the lake, and then with steep climb to the top of Gokyo-Ri. After a hard climb of few hours rewards brilliant sunrise over chain of snow peaks. Overlooking world’s four highest peaks, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu with Mt. Cho Oyo. The view includes of whole Gokyo Valley and the lakes with Ngozumpa the longest Glaciers around the Himalayan range.
After a refreshing morning capturing spectacular views walk down to Gokyo for breakfast and lunch. Afternoon a few hours of good walk to Thagnak close beneath Ngozumpa Glacier. Then reaching Thagnak a small settlement, the base of Cho-La Pass, check into a small simple lodge for overnight. Rest of the afternoon relax, and save the energy for early morning climb to cross over Cho-La Pass.

Rising early morning before dawn, follow the lead guide as the path can be quite confusing over boulders of rocks. After leaving the lodge with good breakfast in Thagnak, the climb lead to steep haul to reach Chola-La Pass. The top is marked with stone cairns and Buddhist prayer smaller flags, enjoy the close views of Cholatse peak. Includes Lobuche East and West with Nirekha peaks as far as Cho-Oyu towards north-west. After an adventurous morning climb, the downhill is quite tough can be slippery with some ice to the bottom. After a careful descend to the eastern base of Cho-La Pass, an hour walks leads to Dzongla for overnight halt. A small settlement with few smaller lodges close to Cholatse and Taboche peaks.

Morning from Dzongla a short climb and then on easy path with gradual uphill to reach above Thugla. Where Pheriche and Dingboche routes joins, also the place where Khumbu glacier melts into a raging stream. On reaching the main trail to Everest Base Camp, a short gradual walk to reach at Lobuche for lunch and overnight stop in a nice cozy lodge.

Start the morning hike having an early breakfast, the walk follows on a wide field and then climb up; above Khumbu glacier. Walk follows on rocky moraine with short downhill to Gorakshep, located on a wide sandy field, beneath Kalapathar hill. Having rest and then continue walk towards our main goal and destination to Everest Base Camp. A high altitude walks over rocky moraine of ice and glaciers reach you to Everest base camp. Enjoy the grand dramatic terrains similar to arctic landscapes of ice, snow and glaciers. The views of Everest in not clearing seen obstructed by adjoining peaks of Lhotse and Nuptse. On achieving the major goal of the adventure walks back to Gorakshep for overnight halt.

One more adventure to complete, rising early for the big climb up to Kalapathar Hill top. Enjoy the morning glorious views of Pumori and Mt. Everest at close distance with range of towering peaks. After a breathtaking views downhill to Gorakshep for breakfast, and walk downhill to Thugla. From here walk leads to Pheriche Valley, stopping for lunch at Pheriche in one of its nice lodge restaurants. Afternoon walk down to a river and short up to a high ridge, and then downhill to Pangboche for overnight stop.

Enjoy the magnificent views of Ama Dablam from Pangboche, having breakfast downhill to cross a bridge. From here back into lush green vegetation and tree lines, as the route heads uphill to Tengboche. After a refreshing break down to Imjatse River and short steep climb to Kyang-Jima. From here on nice winding path to Namche Bazaar for overnight after an exciting day walks.

Enjoy the morning spectacular views of snow peaks, and then start walk downhill to Dudh Koshi River Valley. The walk continues with short climb to National Park exit post at Monjo, the walk then follows to Phakding. From Phakding on gradual winding trail with last final climb to Lukla for last overnight night stop. After an exciting and marvelous adventure around the high Khumbu to Everest base camp.

Morning walk to Lukla’s Tenzing & Hillary Airport after a good early breakfast, as time for a short flight to Kathmandu. Check into the airport counter and then board in a small aircraft. Enjoy the plane heading downhill, as it lifts high above the green hills with panorama of the Himalayan range. Then on landing at Kathmandu airport transfer to your respective hotels, rest of the day at leisure.

A free day in Kathmandu, reserved as contingency in case of flight delay, and might lead to cancellation sometimes. Which happens sometimes due to unfavorable and bad weather conditions. If all goes well according to the planned itinerary day, enjoy the free day for another tour and shopping souvenirs of Nepal.

Last day in Kathmandu and Nepal, after a great experience on Gokyo Valley to Everest base camp via Cho-La Pass trekking. What to expect on Gokyo Valley to Everest base camp trek?

How are the Tea Houses, Lodge en route Gokyo and Everest base camp?

Since the flow of Trekkers and mountaineers from 1970’s onwards the lodges are well established. At present there are many nice, cozy and well furnished rooms in all lodges with pot belly stoves as heating system, all run by the native Sherpa people offering nice food menu along with the hospitality.

Most lodges after Namche Bazaar en route to Gokyo and Everest base camp offers rooms with common bathe and toilets. Due to freezing temperatures in the morning and nighttime. Where plumbing of running water freezes, this is why lodges around Gokyo till Gorakshep have common toilets with simple rooms.

What religions and customs practiced around Everest?

The Sherpa people of Khumbu and Everest region, follow Tibetan Buddhism. At every village with a monastery, the life style is similar to the Tibetan cultures, and traditions.

How tough is Gokyo Valley to Everest Base Camp Trekking?

Depending upon ones physical fitness with previous trekking or outdoor experience. Actually it is not that hard our itinerary day trekking en route is flexible with enough days for acclimatization.
